Following Friday night’s chateau party, which wrapped up Italian week at INSEAD, Ben and I ventured out into the Forêt de Fontainebleau to walk part of the GR11. After being out until 5am the night before, we didn’t actually get started on the trail until around 3pm on Saturday, and then walked a very hungover slow 13 kilometers to the village of Veneux-les-Sablons. Unlike Sweden, you can only camp in designated grounds, with few options near the Forest of Fontainebleau. Aided by a map we bought at the tourist center in Fontainebleau, we found Les Courtilles du Lido, an excellent campground with spacious and private designated plots and a nice bathroom facility. While we had every intention of walking the same route back this morning, we ended up jumping on a morning train to give us the day to catch up on blogging work.
Tip for hiking GR11 in Fontainebleau: Buy a map.
